We left off with all of the armor being covered in numerous layers of gesso. After you reach the smoothness level you want, you can start painting. First, paint the roses. To do this, I actually mixed a dark red with a sparkly silvery color and painted a base, then went over that in a bright red. I was afraid the bright red directly on the white would be too red.
Do multiple coats, until the red is as vibrant as your want and there are no brush strokes. Next, paint the green stems and accents.
Now, paint your gold. Be careful while going around the red and green bits. Do multiple coats.
Weather your armor. I’m not terribly good at weathering. Basically, I just use a dry brush technique and black paint and swirl that over all my armor, paying special attention to any grooves.
If you haven’t done so already, you want to make sure you add your attachments. I used elastic and velcro.
Use a sealer to seal your paint job. I used a satin finish and really didn’t like how it turned out. It’s not terrible so I’m not redoing it, but it’s not what I wanted. I recommend using a scrap of worbla and painting it, then testing a few different sealers on it to make sure you get the look you want.
Next, you need to add the fabric parts to the armor. The skirt and butt flap I made relatively simple. Basically, I made them like a curtain. Rectangle piece of fabric, hem, fold over top, sew, slide onto hip armor.
I didn’t like this length, so I ended up hemming it up to around my knees.
For the top, I wanted to make the fabric look like her dress. I cut a rectangle of fabric (basically I guessed on a size and got lucky that it worked). Then, fold right sides together and sew leaving one end open.
Flip right side out. Fold in ends and stitch. Find center. Using a long stitch, stitch center. Pull strings to gather. Tie in back.
Put your armor on your mannequin (or yourself, and have help). Pin center where it would go. Drape over to arm. Mark. Repeat for other side. Stitch and pull like you did for center. Tie in back. Repeat for sleeve opening. Use ribbon to attach D-rings.
Attach using worbla scraps to your breast armor.
And your armor is done!
